130&131 are some of my favorite episodes in all of anime, After bottling up so much of his Grief due to losing Kite, Gon finally confronts Pitou, the one who “stole” Kite away from him. All of his optimism and faith in Kite being alive, crushed at that moment
He first blames himself for Kite’s death, since he is technically only a child who has never experienced grief on this scale, who else can he blame but himself? Before he was optimistic but when faced with the cold hard truth, he doesn't have anyone to blame but himself.
He thens blaming Pitou for this because, yes she was the one who killed him, but he can’t accept that for himself. Kite was one of the strongest people he knew. So the he switches to blaming himself again, as “If I hadn’t gone with him, Kite wouldn’t have died”
He receives a small bit of hope when Pitou pulls out doctor blythe, Gon thinks she is going to heal Kite, and Pitou was just “Lying” but this hope is quickly smashed down when pitou uses it to heal her own arm. And the reason she does that is to kill gon.
Gon is consumed with rage because of this. And this was the moment before his infamous sacrifice. The music darkens, the room fills with a black and red vortex with Gon’s voice in a quiet rage. We’re shown that he'll use everything in his power to kill pitou.
He's accepted Kite’s death and essentially sacrificed his Nen to fulfill his revenge on Pitou. Pitou tries attacking him but he has become so fast that he is already in another room. Gon tells them to go outside as they don't want to harm the area they were in.
When they’re outside, Pitou immediately tries to attack and Gon reacts instantly kicking her in the air. She knows that she has no chance against this “monster” but she keeps going for the sake of her king.
What follows is not really a fight but more of one-sided massacre. Killua rushes to the scene to try and help his “light” Gon. When he arrives, the person he admires so much is beating Pitou’s corpse over and over. This hurt Killua a lot as Gon’s friend and you can see it in him.
Both sides are in despair by this point. Gon who has sacrificed a substantial portion of his life to achieve revenge on pitou. And Killua who has to witness his best friend going through this rage. Gon is expressionless, he's accepted what he's done, and doesn't care anymore.
In summary, Episodes 130&131 was a perfect portrayal of grief and despair. Togashi is a master at depicting emotional extremes, and these episodes are a prime example of that.
