Good evening and welcome to Will It Raclette?, wherein I—a person in possession of two pounds of raclette cheese and a bottle of Snoop Dogg Cali Red—attempt to answer the age old question: will this thing from my fridge taste better with melted cheese on top? We’ll begin shortly.
Starting off easy with some basic carbs (rye bread.) Still figuring out the temp control on the grill and trying not to set myself on fire.
Some bubbling cheese action
Verdict: not photogenic, but yes, it will raclette.
Next up: broccoli (oven roasted.) I’m pretty confident about this one.
Verdict: yes, this is better with melted cheese.
Next up: one adorable tiny roasted potato. This is pretty traditional (though I think usually they’d be boiled?) so I expect it to be delicious.
Verdict: good. Needs salt, surprisingly.
Side note, just had to go rescue the cat from where he’d trapped himself in the china cabinet. Not sure what this means for his feelings re: ludicrous cheese-related stunts?
Next up is sweet potatoes, roasted. My guess is that something a little sharper/funkier than raclette would work better here (gruyere maybe?), but we’ll see.
Verdict: not bad, but missing something. Maybe some sort of pickled item would work here? More research needed.
Let’s lighten things up with this mystery apple from my weekly produce box. (“Lighten.”)
Verdict: pretty good, but then I am a known apple-cheese fan. YMMV.
Taking a break to hydrate and maybe take a lap around the block.
Time for pears! An overall underrated fruit, in my opinion.
Verdict: better than the apple, actually. Strong recommend!
Next: fennel (raw with a little salt and lemon juice)
This is a very weird mistake.
Okay, that’s everything I had planned on having tonight, but I still have a few slices of cheese that I want to use. Let’s see what’s in the fridge.
The last couple of olives at the bottom of the jar? Sure, why not.
Verdict: that is a LOT of salt. Still, feels fancy, somehow.
Okay, that’s all on melted cheese for the night. But I still have...a lot...of cheese in the fridge, so this isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later.
The Snoop Dogg red is pretty good, btw.
