Few thoughts about the @nba_topshot pack drop today. People love Top Shot. That much is clear. We also all agree that this is a beta & in a testing stage. The problem is pain & alleviation of. I have faith in @rohamg and @Alanfalcon. They're good, passionate people. But....
The common pack drops have not been without problems, though progress is being made. People have been happier, which in turn makes them happy to beta test your product. I was surprised to see a legendary pack being dropped this fast, b/c to me the process wasn't clean enough....
You're adding multiple layers to an already shaky ground. The price point, the process, the uncertainty of it all. Poorly timed, and I'd have to question whoever made that decision behind the scenes. Take it slow, be more deliberate. Empathy goes a long way here because....
There's a lot of money (perhaps not in cryptoverse) being moved around. People are investing time and money to engage w/these pack drops and the marketplace. Though it seems with each new drop the pitchforks are swelling up in droves, and it's more than simply I DIDN'T GET ONE!
It's the experience, and how you feel. If you're told up front you'll only get a pack a small % of the time, that's fine. People understand it. If you do what is asked of you, the result should be linear vs expectation aside from severely unseen circumstances. Not like today.
It's also extremely important to take care of the people who are in pack-drought purgatory because it's their experience that takes Top Shot to the next step in adoption. They matter so much in this process and the depth of caring should be shown.
New user experience and site testing/progression should be symbiotic in nature w/both being present in consideration. Top Shot can move past today, but this really does feel like a turning point where supporters may say F this and move on. Alleviate the headaches. Show them care.
That said, empathy to what the dev team is going through & the massive undertaking before them (that has suddenly exploded) is also important. Respect, patience, and consideration for all involved is key. Top Shot can be THE NFT that bridges worlds, but it must be nurtured.
