Men are more likely to be in a car crash, but women in crashes are 73% more likely to be injured & 17% more likely to die. It wasn't until 2011 that the US began using female crash test dummies but they were still based on male anthropometry. https://www.searcylaw.com/is-gender-bias-in-automobile-safety-costing-womens-lives/
As of 2018, "BioRID is the most biofidelic Anthropometric Test Device (ATD) for rear impacts and it represents an average male anthropometry…however, epidemiological data has shown that females have a higher risk for whiplash injury." https://research.chalmers.se/publication/509735/file/509735_Fulltext.pdf
Women are 3x more likely to suffer whiplash injuries than men, but crash data shows many vehicle seats specifically designed to prevent whiplash injuries are less likely to help female occupants. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-safety/crash-test-bias-how-male-focused-testing-puts-female-drivers-at-risk/
"It’s an open secret in the automotive industry that automakers engineer their cars specifically to pass crash tests...It’s critical for tests to represent how cars are used in the real world." Calling on @SecretaryPete to require automakers to safety test for women's body types.
To automakers: As a consumer and car-purchase decision maker, I would put any car that has been safety tested for anatomically accurate female bodies on my short-list to consider purchasing.
