i don’t like to complain about things that come w/ having a following online bc i know that it’s an immense privilege. however, i need y’all to understand how often i receive messages like this and the fact that real human beings — people we all know — are sending them. (1/4)
deranged hate posting online, especially towards marginalized people, ESPECIALLY bipoc + trans people, doesn’t come out of thin air. it comes from the quiet guy in your class, your conspiracy theory uncle, your little brother who spends too much time in his room. (2/4)
the alt-right, qanon, and other extremist hate groups are targeting people — often white cishet men who feel lost or without purpose — and radicalizing them in dangerous ways. (3/4)
we need to protect the most marginalized people in our communities, and part of that means not letting people around you slip through the cracks and get recruited into a hate cult. we must all commit to helping and saving and loving each other more — it is the only way out. (4/4)
