I will start on the Dove articles properly tomorrow, but for now, lets take a look at Shoichi Uchida's most recent post on his blog, which details why he became a pro wrestler.
His early life didn't seem to be easy as there was money for nothing - no school meals, no school clubs and he couldn't even go on school trips. Despite his high intelligence, his grades fell below a certain level, and tuition aid was cut off as he couldn't afford it.
He had worked as florist, on a tuna boat (a thoroughly miserable experience which he documented), in a host club (probably where he learned bartending), and eventually he wound up in Osaka. Sports being something he was good at, he joined a wrestling class
There were a lot of future names in the class, but they were all younger than him and mainly kids in high school (such as Daisuke Harada and Atsushi Kotoge), eventually he went to a Osaka Pro try out (with Kotoge, who started a year and a half after he did), and he passed
So, after a celebratory drink (not drinks), he drove home on an old moped which had a busted light, and was pulled over. The fine was 100,000 yen, which he couldn't afford, and so he was sent as punishment to a detention center. No criminal record fortunately
So, when he got out, he found that Osaka Pro had posted on their website that they couldn't contact him. So when he returned due to the weight he had lost he trained and suffered various injuries, he has steel bolts in his ankle from both a fracture and rupture of the ligament.
He couldn't train, and so he left the dormitory to get better, but he didn't really have anywhere to stay and he shuttled from friends houses to friends houses. It looks like he will continue his story later, as it kind of stops here.
