The whole point of coffee table art books is to have something to do specifically while you’re high

Aesthetic is such a full body experience
A certain combination of sounds, colors, shapes that seem to control your body—and how external power can influence those cues

That’s aesthetics
Damn, made friends with this woman (curator) yesterday, and I was trying to articulate why I felt like she had opened up a lot without saying much in a way I liked. It’s because she made conversation through stories that walked me through the aesthetic of her home.
I can’t believe science hasn’t solved how to keep listening to a record without flipping it (goddamnit do not say “get a cd grandpa”)

People are quick to dismiss aesthetic because it requires them to work harder than they want to. If anyone can adopt and manipulate the signs and signifiers, how can I tell the ones whose values truly align with mine and the ones that don’t?
And that’s also where you get into the nitty gritty of, say, how capitalism and white supremacy reproduces differently through different subcultures and why too many defend them as beyond reproach—either too perfect or too fragile, when the truth is both and neither, and here’s
how I can break it down in how your body responds to certain sights, sounds, smells, contexts and compare it to the work you do to investigate that and how your relationship to power informs that
But no, that’s too much work. Much easier to dismiss aesthetics.
How dare one be challenged to investigate one’s physical responses to various external stimulation. That’d be like unpacking a feeling. ☹️
