My response:

It seems I live rent-free in the heads of certain people. My original tweet was not polemical in the least, but I will respond to the misrepresentations.

Firstly, the reference to St Paul is utterly a red herring. We do not hold that an angel appeared to St Paul but the exalted and risen Christ Himself. Second, Paul's vision was confirmed by others (Christ also appears to Ananias in Acts 9 to inform him of Paul)
Second, Paul's vision accords exactly with OT prophets and their reception of the divine Word. As brother @iamschuyler97 has skillfully demonstrated, Jeremiah 23 speaks of true prophets SEEING the Word of God. This accords exactly with Paul (1 Corinthians 9:1)
@quranandbibleb1 asks whether it is more likely that Paul was deceived or Muhammad? It is undeniable that Muhammad contradicted the prophets, the Apostles and Jesus Himself. In this instance the latter is far more likely. Paul's message was confirmed by those who knew Christ.
If you have 1000 years of biblical tradition + 600 years of church tradition and a man appears saying it's actually false and we should follow his novelties instead, this is a huge red flag. It's no wonder Muhammad was nearly universally rejected by Jews and Christians.
Yes, St Gabriel the Archangel did appear to Righteous Zachariah as well as the Holy Prophet Daniel, as well as the Mother of God. This is precisely the point, Gabriel announced the birth of the Son of God, (Luke 1) which Muhammad denied. Muhammad therefore did not see Gabriel.
Does @quranandbibleb1 really think Jews and Christians in 7th century Arabia would accept a man who claimed that the eternal covenant of God with Israel was made null by a Gentile prophet, and who said Christ wasn't the Son of God? Nonsense. These are tell-tale signs of a demon.
@quranandbibleb1 alluded to Muhammad ascending to heaven and somehow concluded that's beyond the powers of evil spirits. I don't see how this is at all related to the topic at hand. The demons have great powers, orchestrating an illusion is easy for them.
The appeal to the Desert Fathers in no sense proves Muhammad actually saw Gabriel. This is the peak of desperation.

Notice, @quranandbibleb1 quotes a narrative where an angel appears to one of the Fathers to explain something to him. This is very different to Satan appearing.
In the narratives of the Desert Fathers, Satan appears to mislead people away from Christ or to oppose Christ in some way, or to lead them to self-delusion and pride. This is precisely what Muhammad's apparition led to.
Quran 68:4 has Muhammad's angel telling him "You are a great moral character". This is the opposite of the Desert Fathers who constantly downplay themselves in humility and consider themselves the worst of sinners. There are many other such statements in the Quran.
Finally, there is a desperate attempt to show that Muhammad's meditation is somehow analogous to the Desert Fathers.

An easy response to this is: you shall know the tree by its fruits. Compare the fruits of these ascetic monks to the fruits of Muhammad.m
If Muhammad truly met Gabriel, why is his entire ministry a mockery of Christ and those who knew Him, and a denial of the teachings of the prophets? I think the answer is clear.

Christ, forgive me, a sinner.
Addendum: the point of my original quote was to establish how a Christian is justified in rejecting Muhammad in light of Satan appearing as Gabriel to the monastics, who clearly recognized that this was Satan and not actually Gabriel. My point was not to make a positive argument.
