Let’s talk about Fear Prophets

Dr Eric Ding is a high priest of this group

Unfortunately, many people without medical or science backgrounds (including many in the teaching community 😞) have come to rely on Dr Ding as a primary source of information

1
He’s an alarmist fear-monger

Unfortunately, his tweets are often recirculated among people in an echo chamber of fear and proclaimed as Gospel

In fact, Dr Ding dropped out of Harvard medical school in his first year...He subsequently got his doctorate in Nutrition...

2
His hot takes are often so bad that physicians and scientists have to spend an inordinate amount of time correcting them and cleaning up the mess

Unfortunately, fear is hard to clean up and many aren’t keen on focusing on nuance

Often the damage on the psyche of many is done

3
FWIW, I’ve been sent numerous anxious questions about panicked posts he has made

There are many would-be Panic Prophets

He’s by far the best...

At being the The Worst

4
“This is his MO. He tweets something sensational and out of context, buries any caveats further down-thread, and watches the clicks and re-tweets roll in.”

— Dr. Angela Rasmussen, Virologist

5
Fear is a powerful drug....and there are a lot of drug-dealers out there like Nutritionist Dr Ding

I would call him a Drama Queen...but what he’s doing is causing real damage

6
Maybe Twitter should enforce their own TOS about Covid-19 misinformation with regards to @DrEricDing
