things that don't seem transphobic, but definitely are, a thread by a trans person. cis people read and rt:
"what are you really?" or "what's in your pants?"
"what is your REAL name?"
"_____, formerly known as (dead name)"
"so when are you transitioning?"
calling us transvestites or transsexuals
"but you still look like _____"
"how do you have sex?"
cis actors playing trans characters
"you're non-binary? that's so cool congrats my they/them"
folx or unnecessarily adding x to words
judging neopronouns
"so when's the surgery?"
"but why do you still dress/look like that"
"you're not gonna pass wearing that/looking like that"
ignoring/not using someone's pronouns
calling someone's name or pronouns as "preferred"
claiming the trans community only began existing 10 years ago
excluding black trans women from your activism
"are you a he or a she?"
expecting the skinny, white, short-haired, flat-chested, androgynous look from non-binary people
calling someone "it" (with the exception that some people use that pronoun)
talking about their past (before they came out) if they don't want to hear about it
complaining that they don't go by their birth name, especially family members
getting confused when they don't want to change their name
thinking pansexuality is just including trans people
excluding trans people in bisexuality
thinking bisexuality is transphobic
confusing us with drag queens
that's all the ones i can think of right now, feel free to add more!!
this is getting a lot of attention thank you!! i will leave some places if you have the means to donate to any of these organizations designed to aid the trans+ community:
