/ Thread: Nobody should be murdered, attacked or abused for how they dress or how they feel. Data from both the UK and the USA suggests that trans-identified people are actually LESS likely to be murdered than the average person. https://quillette.com/2019/12/07/are-we-in-the-midst-of-a-transgender-murder-epidemic/
/ Kentucky prof Wilfred Reilly found the 2017 homicide death rate for transgender people was about 1.48 per 100,000, less than 1/3 of the overall murder rate (about 5 per 100,000) & a fraction of the rate for men in general (6.68) or black people (18.8)." https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/dec/8/transgender-homicide-rate-remarkably-low-despite-h/?fbclid=IwAR0u01SiljpSbYLTeMZb--jUHaWOtB2xLE6aF49jydh6NDzYAX1pCtz_njc
/ "Calls to combat a purported epidemic of killings targeting trans people... are rising, even though U.S. data indicates people who identify as members of the opposite sex are less likely to end up as homicide victims than their non-trans counterparts."
/ “All of these large groups- blacks, poor whites, Latinos, men- have a murder rate... higher than the trans murder rate. That’s what I found,” said Reilly, who teaches political science at the historically black college “The transgender murder rate seems to be remarkably low.”"
/ In the UK, data from Transrespect (often cited by trans campaigners) suggest that the average trans person has a one-in-200,000 to one-in-500,000 chance of being murdered over the course of a year. https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-how-many-trans-people-murdered-uk
/ This is in contrast to ONS figures which show that the average adult in England & Wales has a one-in-100,000 chance of being murdered in a given year. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/articles/homicideinenglandandwales/yearendingmarch2019
/ Figures suggest that in the UK a trans-IDd person is less than 1/2 as likely to be murdered than the average person. "The recorded number of trans murder victims is so small it would only take 1 or 2 more murder cases every year for the UK “trans murder rate” to x2 or x3."
/ However, unofficial figures do suggest that trans-IDd people are more likely to experience other violent crimes such as domestic abuse. Measures should be taken to understand and prevent this. Eliminating the collection of sex-based data is not the answer.
