Radio has long been my favourite medium but I try and avoid anxiety-inducing phone-ins as much as possible. However, last night I caught a few minutes of one on BBC where they were largely discussing vaccine efficacy. 1/4
Then a 74-year-old called in - not to talk about vaccines - but to say he believed we’d be more resilient as a country if we lived more active lifestyles, as we used to, and how we should (his words, or gist there of). He added that he walked 5 miles early every morning. 2/4
The presenter was incredulous at this. Responding almost as if it were a crank call and challenged whether the man was telling the truth. The assertion being that rising early to do this amount of physical activity was extreme. He cut him off shortly after. 3/4
Given it’s balanced coverage from our national broadcaster, is this where we’ve arrived as society? An everyday normal where the silver bullet/magic pill/bio hack might make it all alright, and we’ll never need to leave the sofa, not even for a short walk? 4/4
