i visit an encampment where the vast majority of people are senior citizens. people with mobility issues (canes, wheelchairs), a man with a colostomy bag. on a dirty sidewalk next to the freeway. a man died there last month. how is this possible? https://twitter.com/hardlynormal/status/1358097756762632192
not trying to sound "exploitative," but it's just so haunting and evil and nothing is being done. i know a woman who lives in a porta-potty. so many women on the street from fleeing domestic violence. how is this not a priority? why are measure H funds so mismanaged?
normal ppl w very little power tell themselves lies about homelessness so they don't have to feel bad about it and so they don't think it will ever happen to them (i certainly used to): they made bad choices, they like being homeless, there's help offered they just don't want it
there's not help! social workers in city orgs are so swamped! there's nowhere near enough shelter beds, forget about housing. i don't know, i don't have any plan of action i really don't know i'm just exasperated + horrified at the level of human suffering everywhere in this city
