So , i’m a full time #devrel for over a year now and I would like to share some thoughts (no tips/directives , I don’t like these kind of threads) :

First of all : devrel / evangelist / dev advocates => we can debate for hours but for me it’s the same : we are engineers who realize they are better to build relations with other devs around technologies rather than contribute technically on the core of those technologies

Well at least this my case, I love being on (virtual) stages , (virtual) hallways sharing my knowledge, my PASSION, my OPINIONATED views but most of all show my HUMILITY

We don’t know everything, we don’t lie, we are not here to close a deal right after our gig. It’s a marathon based on sincerity, trust and on our passion articulated around the fact to make developers happy.
When someone ask a question after our session/lab and we don’t know/how what to answer we just reply honestly and tell we will do our best to provide an answer , we don’t oversell.

Demo gods are our best friend, we joke about them but we need them because it shows that :
1. We are not demo bots , we are humans
2. We show, as a developer that we can recover from these situations

Don’t feel inconfortable showing stuff that the audience will probably put in production not until the 3 next years , you are here to plant the seed (not only to throw glitter)

All what I stated again is my own opinion and applies for the community as well for the customers, yes because we also work a lot with our customers, often it’s the hidden part of our work not visible on social media but for me for instance it’s 70% of my job
Ans last thing : since March 2020 , the world has changed a “bit” it’s hard for everyone and so I tried to reinforce something that I had naturally in me : adding fun !
We deal with 0 and 1 , let’s add some emotions to that , let’s have fun together , play games, make errors during our demos, speaking about other things than code ...
thank you ! And stay safe !
