It took less time than I thought it would to revert to the mode where ICE & CBP detain families, deport babies, & keep people trapped in sanctuary churches, while Obama/Biden supporters deny any of it is happening. Yet here we are again.

ICE is denying other requests from sanctuary leaders. Congressional staff told us they don’t have time to discuss the cases. DHS officials are ignoring sanctuary leaders, as did the Biden campaign and the transition team. The word “sanctuary” is awkward for them to hear or say.

All signs so far are that Biden and his administration are committed to preserving family detention as "overflow facilities" to detain asylum-seeking families so that Republicans don't accuse Biden of losing control of the border.

But Judge Tipton’s order left intact other guidance directing ICE to exempt almost all immigrants from arrest & detention. Which ICE has defied. Immigration attorneys report that ICE is routinely denying requests for discretionary protections (parole, stays, joining motions to reopen, etc.) just as they did under Trump. Again, this directly contradicts the new enforcement priorities.

So far it looks like detention and deportation of black and brown families just isn’t that big a deal to Joe Biden. That was true in 2008-16 and it’s true now. Democrats in Congress are focused on other priorities that are more important to them.

And the Brunch Left is pretending none of this is happening, or blaming ICE and giving politicians a pass. Just as they did under Obama. So here we are again, yelling into the void but no one seems to hear. #AbolishICE #ShutDownBerks #FreeThemAll
