it's not that some asian americans don't feel bad about the elderly, often poor and immigrant, asians who get assaulted. it's more that they fundamentally don't identify with them enough on a class level—despite both being "asian"—to risk saying anything and rocking the boat /1
class for asian americans isn't solely determined by money, either. another big factor is how well you fit in with white people, a valuable currency all on its own. the highest-class asian americans are ivy-educated, white-socialized, and work in creative-class jobs /2
so if you're confused as to why there isn't a more unified asian american reaction to something as straight-forward as our most vulnerable members getting hurt and killed, just look for the wealth/assimilation/education divide and see who's on which side of the line 3/3
