we will highlight one distinguished OmegaMan. Today we will mention Ernest Melville DuPorte.
DuPorte was born October 24th 1891 in Nevis. In 1910, DuPorte started college at Macdonald College. in 1913 DuPorte graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture.

In the same year DuPorte was the first Black Canadian to teach at McGill University. DuPorte taught several science courses such as entomology, genetics, & parasitology. He became the first zoology graduate to earn a M.S. in 1914 & his PhD. in 1921. Both from McGill University.
In 1934, he began research on ticks as disease vectors. DuPorte was granted government funding that was used to establish the Institute of Parasitology McGill. He became head of the Entomology Department in 1955 after unofficially leading it for decades & retired in 1957.
n 1963, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science by Carleton University. DuPorte became a Fellow of the Entomological Society of Canada in 1977.
DuPorte was initiated into Omega Psi Phi as a charter member for Sigma Chapter in 1924, the first chapter of our fraternity to be established in Canada. DuPorte passed away on July 31st 1981.
