Rather than stop Fauci outsourced the research to a company that partnered with one of the leading labs working on gain of function research the Wuhan institute of virology. Gain of function research is when scientists replicate and speed up the mutation of a virus in a lab

Which simulates what would naturally occur over time in nature. So through repeated mutations the virus 'gains new functions'. The purpose is so we can better predict infections diseases, create treatments and develop vaccines.
The risk of this type of research is that these human engineered viruses could escape a lab and cause a global pandemic.

Dr Fauci didn't stop his research. Instead he contracted the research [using $3,748,715 in taxpayer money] to a company called EcoHealth Alliance New York. EcoHealth Alliance then sub-contracted the gain of function research to the Wuhan institute of virology.

The US-funded Research continued in Wuhan Until March of 2020, When @POTUS45 canceled finding.
We now know Fuaci's NIAID gave funding to the Wuhan Lab. We also now know he funded the specific research that may have led to the covid outbreak we're dealing with today.
