Here’s the thing: we can acknowledge the mistrustfulness of institutions and the last White House administration that have contributed to vaccine hesistancy among POC, AND recognize the inequities and racism embedded in the implementation of the Covid vaccine rollout. 🧵 1/4
We need those in charge of vaccine rollout to be intentional about increasing vaccine uptake in poor and Black communities. Our communities want culturally relevant vaccine messages from vetted & trusted sources like community organizations— and yes, Black/Latinx doctors. 2/4
And don’t get me wrong: Black and Latinx physicians are here for this — why do you think we are posting pictures on #SoMe getting the vaccine and engaging in discussions in our churches and communities? It isn’t bc we think arms are sexy or have nothing else to photograph. 3/4
We are willing to partner with those in charge to improve trust in the vaccine. But this work does not replace the necessary work that needs to happen at the county, city, state & federal level to address racism in vaccine rollout. Equity is key to the success of the rollout. 4/4
