This statement is completely at odds with the available evidence, which clearly establishes a strong causal connection between police & public safety. Where are the fact-checkers? Where is the little disclaimer from Twitter letting people know this claim is disputed? https://twitter.com/tiffany_caban/status/1357802042757152772

This paper shows a significant increase in crime resulting from abrupt declines in volume of police activity in five cities (declines driven by pattern and practice investigations initiated by the federal government): https://www.nber.org/papers/w27324
This paper finds that police in New York City prevented more than 60,000 violent crimes between 1989-1998: https://media4.manhattan-institute.org/pdf/cr_22.pdf

This study establishes a strong causal connection between police response times and clearance rates in Manchester, England: http://www.restud.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/DetectedResponse09.pdf
I could go on, and on, but you get the idea. To claim that police have no effect on crime can really only be the product of two things: ignorance or deviousness.
