With the addition of Raleek Brown to the 2022 class for Oklahoma, I thought it would be a good time to unpack the evolution of Lincoln Riley's recruiting of elite talent—

*thread*

The quarterback lineage was a tell-tale sign of the direction of how things we're going to go...
... Oklahoma shoots for landing a top quarterback in every class, but is okay with landing the top quarterback in every other class. Get good quarterbacks for three years, transition them in and out.

Now it's happening at wide receiver/running back.
As Jadon Haselwood, Trejan Bridges and Theo Wease enter 1st year of draft eligibility, Riley will have Cody Jackson, Mario Williams, Billy Bowman and Jalil Farooq entering year one. Then adding Talon Shettron, Jordan Hudson and Luther Burden the next year. The next wave is in.
As Oklahoma transitioned out Trey Sermon, Kennedy Brooks and Rhamondre Stevenson, guys like Seth McGowan, Jase McClellan and Camar Wheaton were to come in.

That's the risk. Lose two guys late, but the transfer portal is a mulligan. Now the next wave comes in with 2022/2023.
So Riley is betting on his track record and development to win out while not stockpiling talent that could possibly leave. It's a gamble that now has a fallback option in the portal.

It's the best way to promise early playing time without having to promise it to elite players.
