Esoteric/exoteric is not collapsible to real/fake
Exoteric ideas are ones that can be disseminated at low resolutions, independently from one another, and that have direct practical relevance.
Esoteric ideas are ones that require initiation, break when compressed, and are inextricable from a larger framework. They are more hierarchical and their function would be inverted if disseminated, especially among culturally fragmented populations
If you dismiss all exoteric doctrines, or worse yet don't cultivate proper exoterica yourself, you will be vulnerable to memetic strategies that are otherwise easily avoided.
This is why "revealing your power level" is discouraged. With proper form, you can tip your hand in subtle and sophisticated ways. But most are too clumsy for this. In fact, most *seek* to be outed unconsciously. A common symptom of Cypher-esque types
The phenomenon of Cypher is an underdeveloped concept in rw circles. Just because someone knows, doesn't mean they want to know. It also doesn't mean they won't consciously or unconsciously seek to revert.
I believe @0x49fa98's excellent thread on quokkas illustrates the phenomenon of an unconscious Cypher. The men described are smart, too smart for the positions they espouse.
I believe they're subconsciously aware of the strategic weakness of their positions, and seek a stronger, more formidable cultural force to guide them back into the Overton window. They seek reversion.
And it is given to them, in ways that overwhelm their logical structures in exactly the way they wanted. They want to be told to "believe women, etc" without evidence. They want to recapture faith, in anything.
