WHY I'M A FEMINIST
1. Because the Nigerian house of reps has 365 sits and only 13 are occupied by women and our country population is 50% female.
2. Because the word "feminism" still has a negative connotation.
3. Because victim-blaming is still a massive problem.
4. Because most cultures in Nigeria still try to invalidate women, giving them the same rights as children.
5. Because birth control is still a contentious issue, but Viagra isn’t.
6. Because women aren’t allowed to be on the front lines of the military or even given similar training (apt NK).
7. Because society keeps trying to make women disappear, only some cultures let children keep their mother's name.
8. Because people are always policing women opinions (e.g 'why aren't married yet, you are 30 oh Nneoma')
9. Because jobs are still categorized as "women’s work" or "men’s work."
10. Because we still say a woman "must be on her period" if she expresses passionate emotions.
11. Because women’s prefixes (like Miss, Ms., and Mrs.) define women by their marital status, yet men only use Mr.
12. Because most women feel unsafe walking home at night.
13. Because men are still generally thought of as the breadwinner in the family.
14. Because it’s "weird" for a man to be a stay-at-home dad.
15. Because who doesn’t want equality for all genders?
IK I missed a lot, please quote this tweet with the reason you are a feminist.
