Overview and analysis on Liverpools results in the Premier League so far this season. A thread:
VS the “big 6” and other notable European contenders

W 2-0 Chelsea
W 3-1 Arsenal
D 2-2 Everton
D 1-1 City
W 3-0 Leicester
W 4-0 Wolves
W 2-1 Spurs
D 0-0 United
W 3-1 Spurs

Only dropped 6 points in 9 of these games, 0 losses with a total of 21/27 points collected, fantastic
VS the rest

W 4-3 Leeds
L 2-7 Aston Villa
W 2-1 Sheff Utd
W 2-1 West Ham
D 1-1 Brighton
D 1-1 Fulham
W 7-0 Palace
D 1-1 West Brom
D 0-0 Newcastle
L 0-1 Southampton
L 0-1 Burnley
W 3-1 West Ham
L 0-1 Brighton

Dropped 20 points in 13, 4 losses, total of 19/39 points, god awful
77% of the points we’ve dropped this season have came against “the rest”

53% of our points in the league have come from the 9 games against the bigger teams, even though we’ve only played 41% of our games against them
We have got 78% of points possible against the big teams

We have got 49% of points possible against the rest

Goals:

Big teams
2.22 goals scored per game
0.66 goals conceded per game
+1.56 GD avg

The rest
1.77 goals scored per game
1.46 goals conceded per game
+0.31 GD avg
Now here is Liverpools goals per game for the whole of last season against all teams

2.24 goals scored per game
0.87 goals conceded per game

Very similar to our performances against just the bigger teams this season in fact it’s slightly worse defensively
Liverpools record against the bigger teams last season

Played 16: Won 12, Drew 2, Lost 2

38/48 points, which is 79% of available points, only 1% more than this season, so there’s really no difference here at all, even with the massive injury crisis the club has had
What has changed however, and by a startling amount, is the record vs “the rest”

Last season record vs the rest:

Played 22: Won 20, Drew 1, Lost 1

61/66 points, which is 92% of available points, which is 43% MORE! Nearly double of how we have performed so far this season
Researching this and finding out we’re actually the same against the bigger teams so far was a shock, I knew our problems were low blocks Ofcourse but I didn’t think we had still been as good against all the top 8 of last season, scoring the same and even conceding less this year
There’s a scary difference against those other 12 teams, but the positive is that IF we can fix it, there’s no reason why we can’t put in an excellent run till the end of the season, as our form has been as good against the teams contending for European places
What is the problem, injuries? Being found out playing a similar style for 2 and a half years? A lack of fire and motivation in the “smaller games” now we’ve already won the league? Or a mix of everything?
Overall theres big worries but silver linings too, we have lots of players coming back from injury now, but the main positive I’m taking is a deep UCL run is very doable just by looking at our big game results this season + having defensive backup, hope you enjoyed the thread
