Twitter talks about breaking free from the rat race but then pushes you into another - "Followers"

Dealing with Follower / Content / Twitter ADDICTION

A Thread👇👇👇
It is GREAT to grow, and have followers, but if you are stuck in it, inviting dissatisfaction and feeling more than you should, this is for you (esp. for writers)!

"Stop measuring the success of your words by the short attention it gets"

Understand this.
Now,

1. Why do you want followers?
Question yourself.

Do you really want followers (you have a product/service/website?) or is it just because everyone is running towards it.

2. Are people with thousands of followers any better? Does a huge number mean they are great?
• There are people who have HUGE following wherever they go, like, Elon Musk or authors. They have it because their identity outside social media is GREAT.

The platform has no say in this. They have achieved all of this outside the platform.
• People who have a huge following on the platform alone.

No big deal - THEY JUST STARTED EARLY
Focused on their content
WERE CONSISTENT.

They've mostly taken their audience to a mailing list, to keep them platform independent (great choice)!
• Then there are shitposting accounts, or those who post vulgar content and have thousands of followers.

This last category goes on to prove that follower number does not define worth.

It just means people like those accounts on their feed.
Well, people also like unhealthy food, so we know they suck at *right* judgments, and knowing the real worth.

4. What am I trying to say?

Having a huge follower no. is GREAT.
But,
It does not mean you write well.

AND

Their Deficiency does not mean you do not write well.
5. What should be my metric of success and satisfaction if not follower and reach?

Well, your metric of success can be follower count!

But if you are basing your satisfaction on it, you will feel bad about every unfollow you get.

And, no number will be enough for you.
Change your metric of valuation.

Some metrics can be
• How refined is this tweet from the last one?

• How different is my account from every other account out there?

• "I am willing to write and own my thoughts publicly so that is HUGE."

• How much value am I giving?
6. How do I stop myself from thinking "I will tweet this" and "how will I tweet this" while doing an important task outside the internet?

Look,

YOU TWEET ABOUT SOMETHING.

YOU DO NOT DO SOMETHING TO TWEET ABOUT IT.
Some of your best tweets will come from
1. Living life
2. Not thinking about content obsessively

Just live your life, you'll find the best tweets in your everyday conversations/ situations naturally.

LIVE IT, and THEN you'll be able to write it beautifully!
I know this thread is unlike any other you've seen here.

Mostly you will be told about how to grow, engage and, I am all for growing and having followers but not at the cost of peaceful life and over-obsession.

No platform will tell you how to get over the platform.
But, there is a line everywhere. And it is difficult to go back to it, in the rat race!

You need to be consistent and work, that's it. Great accounts have posted quality content and eventually found the number.

But the more you run towards it, the farther satisfaction will be.
