Today is the Sámi national day!
For those who don’t know, the Sámi people are an indigenous people whose land, Sápmi, have been settled and colonised by Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia (see map below).
Today marks the date for the 1st national gathering of Sámi in 1917.
(Note on spelling: sometimes Sámi is spelled Saami or Sami in English, I’ve seen them all used by Sámi people themselves, so from what I gather they all work. Let me know if I’m mistaken!)
All of the countries who have colonised Sápmi have performed atrocities during said colonisation, and I encourage you to read up on it. Some resources:

http://www.samer.se  (this page is in Swedish but you can use a translation feature that works ok!)
This history of colonialism is far from over though, it’s still ongoing. One aspect of that is that the Sámi still lack rights to their land, water, and resources.
The screenshots below are from this document: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5dfb35a66f00d54ab0729b75/t/5e722293aee185235a084d70/1584538266490/TRÅANTE_DECLARATION_english.pdf
Just recently, the Swedish forest industry attempted to cut down forests in Sápmi in a way which would’ve been detrimental to the Sámi.
Read more here for instance and find out how to support Sámi people!

Might add on to this thread later but to sum up:
Today is the Sámi national day! You should spend some of it learning more about Sámi history and the colonisation being done historically and today.
More people to follow! These people don’t usually post in English, but IG’s translation feature usually works okay. https://instagram.com/ina.omma?igshid=1p552v469qb7p
