So given the recent discussions about gacha and so on here's a thread on good gacha practices from someone who has been playing gacha games since 2015 and has never spent a single cent on them ever
If you are a minor Do Not Spend Money In Gacha Period. No buts. If you're of legal age but don't have an income or are dependent on someone else's money (e.g. your parents) be careful with how much you spend, you should set yourself a limit
If you're an adult who has an income and can and want spend money in game feel free to do so, but always within reason. If you get put in a predicament where you have to choose between bills or gacha it's time to take a step back and think why you got to this point
Do Not Buy Game Currency Anywhere Else That Is Not The Game Itself. I can't stress this enough. I don't care if some sellers guarantee to buy it from the game or whatever, you're still giving money to other random people and you will put your game account in danger
I thought it was common sense but apparently not. If the game currency is too expensive for you that means you should not buy it. Don't use third parties. Ever.
If the game you play has a pity/spark system or similar, use it in your favour. You need to understand you cannot have every character, so calculate and save in-game currency so you have enough leeway to get your favourite character when it comes
And if the game does not have any pity/spark system (which is actually most of them) simply save as much currency as you can to increase the chances to get your fav, especially if you don't know when is it coming
Yes, I am saying favourite character and not "comfort character" because comfort character is a concept that is quickly turning to be incredibly unhealthy. Favourite characters can make you happy, make your life better, make you smile when you think about them, sure
but that doesn't mean your entire mental and emotional wellbeing should rely on them because they are NOT real. Not getting the character you wanted can make you upset or sad but if it's making you depressed or worse you should absolutely seek help
because it's neither normal not healthy, there are more important things in life. Games are supposed to be an entertainment especially in these trying times we are living, not make you feel bad to such an extreme point. Don't forget that, you're playing to have fun
"But there's a new banner I like very much and it's not my fave, I want to roll :(" Sure! Play the way it makes you happy. I'm not saying you can /only/ roll for your fav, of course, I'm just explaining the way I play to save for my fave, just keep in mind you can't have everyone
tl;dr spending money in gacha games should always be your Last resort, not something you do first of all. Gacha games do NOT force you to spend money on them, it is YOUR choice. I'm saying this because I sometimes see people talking as if it was something unavoidable
but let me assure you: it's not. You do NOT have to spend money in games if you don't want to. It's as simple as that. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise, it's always a choice. And if you choose to spend money, always be conscious of your limits
and if you notice it's getting out of hand/it's getting really hard on you for whatever reason please seek help. As someone who has been f2p her entire life, trust me, you CAN be 100% f2p and have as much fun if not more as people who pay
And remember always, games are supposed to be fun, not make you suffer!
