Story Time: Do u know anything about Idi Amin? Have you ever heard of Operation Thunderbolt? Or 90 minutes at Entebbe? It’s a story of one of the world’s most intriguing rescue operation of passengers from an hijacked plane. Thread Begins.
In the year 1976, an Air France flight was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists soon after it took off from Israel. As soon as the flight went off the radar, the suspicion of hijacking was discussed by Israeli agencies. After multiple stop overs the flight finally landed in
an deserted airstrip at Entebbe, which is an Ugandan airport. As the news came to light, initially Israel thought since passengers from many countries were there, the negotiation will be a multi country affair. However, to its horror, the passengers were quickly segregated
as Jews vs Non Jews. Thereafter it became a singular fight of Israel alone. Now, how do Idi Amin is related to this story? Idi Amin was the then president of Uganda, who was a dictator. He had been friendly to Israel. Initially Israel thought they could get some help from Uganda.
Soon after it became clear that Idi Amin has declared allegiance to Mu%lim brotherhood and is actively aiding the terrorists. He even went ahead and told the hostages I am your friend and I will take care of you hope your govt cooperates. So, Sagarika comparing comparing NaMo
with Idi Amin is intellectual dishonesty. Coz one was part of a brotherhood which carried out a terrorist attack and the other is a democratically elected leader, anyway let’s proceed to what happened next. In the next few days Israeli forces carried out the most daring rescue
operation in human history. Three platoons flew over Mediterranean Sea without being detected by anyone. Along with them they took a car which was equivalent to that if Idi Amin. So, they landed in the Entebbe airport under complete secrecy and then carried out the raid.
Their cover was blown only minutes before the final assault. They killed all terrorists, rescued all passengers and on their way back they destroyed the fighter crafts of Ugandan Army which was deployed by Idi Amin so that they don’t follow back. In the entire operation,
there was only one casualty and he was Yobathan Nityanhu, he is the brother of Israel’s current PM -Benjamin Nityanhu. Fascinating. Isn’t it? End.
