1. I was having a discussion with my Aunty Amudat recently (recall that I mentioned that she gives the best advice in the world) about the concept of having it all. Here I was arguing about how unfulfilled a person will be if you're trying to get to a certain destination and it
2. seems like everything is out of reach.
She asked me, "Shaki, what is having it all to you? Is there truly a state of having it all if you don't find inner peace and contentment? Human wants are insatiable and the moment you achieve a certain 'all',
3. you're almost running towards another 'all' and if you don't try to enjoy every stage of your journey, it will seem like you never had anything. Another thing is, If you decide that you want to fixate your mind on something and make it a source of unhappiness, then all
4. you'll see around you is sadness and you'll never open your eyes to the things that you have that you once prayed fervently for. Was it not just a few years ago you were praying day and night for the successful completion of residency? You're a consultant now, and yet
5. the endless ratrace continues. So Shaki, while you're thinking about having it all, remember that 'all' is relative and achieving your goals does not necessarily mean that happiness is guaranteed. If wealth alone was the source of joy, then we would not have sad millionaires
6. and happy paupers. It is in the realization that at every point, you must remember to find your joy and peace in all the little things. Those milestones you're thinking will bring you ultimate joy, is the unending rat race of life. Chase it, work for it, plan for it..
7. .but remember that it should not be all that you have. And never forget to enjoy the journey while you're chasing your goals. The reason why I think a lot of people are unhappy is because they measure their lives by the amount of targets they're yet to achieve,
8. instead of focusing on those they've attained."

There's always a lesson in every conversation with her. One of my favorite human beings in the world. My Aunty Amudat. Anytime I'm stuck, all I think of is, "what would Aunty Amudat do?"

Thought I'd share with you.
