The VERY FIRST thing you MUST understand about Vietnam is that we are historically poor because other nations colonized us, and that those nations are wealthy because they colonized, and they STILL TRY TO CONTROL US through the World Bank, IMF, imperialism, etc.
Vietnam is rich in natural resources (which is why we were colonized). We became poor because of centuries of being enslaved and exploited. We tried to build a moneyless society and our former masters punished, abused, embargoed, and threatened us for it, and still pressure us.
If you come from a wealthy capitalist-imperialist nation understand this first before you attack us for not being "real socialists." YOUR countries manipulate and torments us constantly and has always benefitted from exploiting us. Understand that before any other things.
If you are an indigenous person or victim of colonialism, imperialism, white supremacism - look at Vietnam and other indigenous revolutionaries like Zapatistas for the kind of abuse you will get from Western Chauvinists if you ever gain independence and sovereignty.
I would call this "blaming the victim" except we Vietnamese refuse to be victims! We won! and will continue our path to the end. We are stronger and more independent every day. We will not be oppressed by foreigners ever again. That's the 2nd thing for you to understand.
