Since most of the DDs (82 of them) are in TN, we will start off with the DDs in this part of the country.. based on the break up that I gave in my earlier tweet, we will start off with the Chozha naatu DD's which are around 40 in number..
The first and foremost DD not only for Chozha naadu but for all DD's is Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam.. I will attempt to give a quick overview of how this temple referred to as "Boologa Vaikuntam" or Heaven (Vaikunta) on earth came to be..
According to the Sriranga Mahathmiyam, Lord Vishnu in the Sri Ranga Vimanam sprang up from the depths of the milky ocean as a result of the tapas of Brahma, carried by Garuda, his mount with Perumal resting on Ananthan or Adi Sesha 2/N
Brahma was informed that Lord Maha Vishnu would appear like this in 7 other places on earth - Srimushnam, Venkatadri, Saligramam, Naimisaranyam, Thotadri, Pushkar and Badri but of all these places Srirangam would be the earliest
Brahma was also informed that Lord Maha Vishnu would appear as a Swayamvaktha ie in his original form as an idol at these places.. Brahma then carried the glittering Ranga Vimana and installed it on the banks of the Viraja river..
He appointed Surya, the sun god to do the daily worship to Lord Ranganatha.. based on the prayers and request of the King Ikshvaku of Ayodhya, Brahma permitted him to take this Vimana with Perumal in it to Ayodhya..
King Ikshvaku and his descendants diligently continued doing the daily prayers to Lord Ranganatha.. Lord Rama who himself is an avatar of Maha Vishnu, did his prayers to Lord Ranganatha.. since Lord Rama was referred to as Perumal, Lord Ranganatha was named Periya Perumal..
On his triumphant return to Lanka after the war with Ravana, Lord Rama gave the Ranga Vimana as a gift to Vibeeshana for worship.. as Vibeeshana was proceeding to Lanka with the Ranga Vimana, he stopped on the banks of the Cauvery river since it was time for the daily prayers..
He placed the Vimana at a place known as the Sesha Peetam to perform the prayers.. once he completed the prayers, as he attempted to lift the Vimana, he found that he could not move it and Vimana was stuck to that place.. He was overcome with grief and dejected..
Lord Maha Vishnu appeared before him and consoled him saying that he had decided to make this place his abode and Vibeeshana would come and offer his prayers everday.. it is still believed that Vibeeshana offers his prayers to Periya Perumal every night..
Even today Periya Perumals holy feet point in the direction of Sri Lanka as they continue to bless Vibeeshana and of course all of us..all the Azhwars except Madurai Kavi Azhwar have dedicated Pasurams from the 4000 divya Prabandhams to Lord Ranganathan..
Some interesting facts about Sri Ranganathaswamy temple.. it is the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world..spread over 156 acres, has around 21 gopurams or towers, surrounded by seven concentric walls..the total length of the 7 wells is almost 9kms..
It also boasts of a magnificient rajagopuram which was constructed under the supervision of his holiness the 44th Jeeyar of Ahobila mutt and is almost 236 ft in height with 13 tiers..every day there is some utsavam or festival that happens at this temple..
We all owe it to Swami Ramanuja who completely overhauled the administrative system of this temple.. even today, what he set up as methods and practices for prayer are followed after 1000 years after Swami returned to Sri Vaikuntam..
Swami Ramanuja lived for 120 years in his physical form and to this day his physical body is preserved and can be found in a sitting posture in the southwest corner of the 5th prakaram where there is a sannidhi dedicated to him..
I can keep going on and one about Srirangam as one lifetime would not be enough talking about this heaven on earth.. kindly visit this temple atleast once in your lifetime to get the divine blessings of Lord Ranganatha and Ranganayaki Thaayar (the divine mother)..
Moolavar is called as Lord Ranganathan or Periya Perumal, Utsavar is known as Azhagiya manavalan or Nammperumal, Thaayar is known as Ranganayaki Thaayar.. interesting there is only one day in the year, Panguni Utthiram that they give darshan together 🙏🙂
To reach Srirangam, you should get to Trichy or Tiruchirupalli which is easily accessible by Air, rail and road transport.. Srirangam is barely 8kms from Trichy.. once you reach Trichy you have various modes of local transport which will take you to the temple..
Remember which gopuram or tower you are entering the temple through as you could come out through an entirely different tower if you are not used to this temple or visiting it for the first time🙂Will come back with the next DD shortly.. Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah🙏
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah 🙏 Sri Vedata Guravey Namah 🙏 Today we will move on to the next DD in Chozha naadu which is known as Thirukozhi or Woraiyur..Woraiyur is about 5km from Srirangam by road and is easily accessible..
Woraiyur at one point used to be the capital of the Chozha Kingdom.. it is also the birth place of Tiruppan Azhwar, The presiding deity is Azhagiya Manavalan in ninra kolam (standing posture) and Thaayar is called Komalavalli Thaayar..
Important point to be noted here is that Perumal does not have a utsava thirumeni in this temple.. Legend has it that Nanda Chozhan who was a king of the Chozha dynasty with Woraiyur as his capital was an ardent devottee of Sri Ranganathan of Srirangam..
He prayed to Lord Ranganathan to be blessed with a child..as he went hunting one day in to the forest, he found a beautiful girl child on a lotus in a pond..he brought the child home and named her Komalavalli meaning the one who emerged from a lotus..
As Komalavalli grew up, she used to accompany her father to the Ranganathaswamy temple and slowly her admiration and love for Sri Ranganathan grew with every passing day.. eventually she expressed her desire to her father that she wanted to marry the Lord of Srirangam..
Lord Ranganathan appeared in the dream of King Nanda Chozhan and told him that Komalavalli is none other than Goddess Mahalakshmi and asked him to prepare to offer her hand in marriage to him..The king was excited that the King of the Universe is going to be his son in law
And that his daughter was none other than the mother of this universe.. the King immediately arranged for their wedding and took her to Srirangam dressed as a bride.. Komalavalli entered the sanctum sanctorium of the shrine of Lord Ranganatha and merged with Perumal..
Even to this day during the Kalyana Uthsavam (marriage celebrations) which happens during Panguni Pooram (in the months of March-Apr) every year, Nammperumal, the utsava moorthi of Srirangam travels all the way to Woraiyur for the marriage celebrations with Thaayar..
Thirumangai Azhwar and Kulasekara Azhwar have sung pasurams at this Divya Desam.. there is also a sannidhi dedicated to Thiruppan Azhwar who was born at Woraiyur.. if you are visiting Srirangam, please pay a visit and get the blessings of Komalavalli Thaayar 🙏🙏
The next DD in Chozha naadu is located very close to Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple and is known as Thirukarambanur..the other names by which it is known are Utthamar Kovil or Bikshandar Kovil.. it is located about 4kms from the Srirangam temple..
This temple has shrines dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma with their respective consorts..Perumal here is known as Purushothaman and Thaayar is Poornavalli Thaayar.. Goddess Parvati is called Vadivudaiamman in this temple..
There are different legends associated with this temple..Lord Shiva had pulled out the 5th head of Lord Brahma and it stuck to his hands..it came out after he received alms from Mahalakshmi Thaayar.. another legend is Lord Maha Vishnu took the form of a Kadamba tree
to which Brahma offered his prayers.. the other legend is that Kadamba Maharishi offered his prayers and did penance to Lord MahaVishnu on the banks of the Kadamba theertham created by Lord Brahma..
The presiding deity Sri Purushothaman is in sayana thirukolam (reclining posture) and blesses all his devotees.. Thirumangai Azhwar has dedicated a pasuram to this Perumal..when visiting Srirangam.. pls add this to your list of must visit temples..
The utsava vigraha of Srirangam, Sri Nammperumal is brought to the Kadamba Theertham during the maasi festival..historical inscriptions from the Chozha and Pandya period can also be found at this temple..
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah| Vedanta Guravey Namah| Today we move on to the next DD in Chozha naadu which is very important and significant.. it is located about 16km from Srirangam in a place called Thiruvellarai or Aadhi Vellarai..
According to legends, this temple was built by King Sibi who once ruled Ayodhya and is said to predate even the Srirangam temple.. the word "Vellarai" means white rock.. it so happened that once when King Sibi was camping in this area he saw a white boar..
As King Sibi and his warriors chased it, the white boar escaped from all of them and hid inside a hole.. Sage Markandeya who was doing penance there ask King Sibi to pour milk in to the hole in which the boar vanished..
Lord Maha Vishnu then appeared and told Sibi that it was none other than him who appeared as the white boar and asked him to construct a temple there for him by bringing around 3700 learned Sri Vaishnavites.. as the King was arranging for this..
One of the Sri Vaishnavities unfortunately left his physical body to paramapadam.. King Sibi was distraught.. Sri Maha Vishnu himself took the form of the Sri Vaishnavite.. there is another legend that Mahalakshmi Thaayar performed penance here to Sri Maha Vishnu..
When Lord Maha Vishnu appeared before her and asked her what she wanted she said she had to have more prominence than him in this Kshetra.. Perumal granted her her wish and to this day in all daily rituals Thaayar is given the first priority before Perumal 🙂
The other temples where first right to daily and all rituals for Thaayar are Nachiyar Kovil, Srivilliputur Andal Rangamannar temple and Woraiyur (which we have already covered).. the other temples will be covered as we move forward..
This temple is also beautiful from an architectural standpoint..however the Rajagopuram is not in complete shape due to various reasons and there are talks that HR&CE intends to complete this but well nothing has progressed so far..
As you enter the temple, how you need to proceed with your worship is clearly prescribed.. you need to first need to do pradakshinam of the bali peedam (there are special poojas done to the bali peedam also), then you need to proceed to Perumal's shrine..
There are two different doors or gates to enter in to the Perumal sannidhi or main sanctum sanctorium.. one if the Uttarayana Vaasal and the Dakshinayana Vaasal, each signifying the winter and summer solstice..depending on the time of the year, the respective gate is open..
The Moolavar here stands magnificiently as Sri Pundarikakshan or the one with the lotus eyes.. the other deities in the Moolavar sannidhi are Bhoomi Devi, Periya Piratti, Suriyan and Chandran fanning the lord and Ananthan (Adi Seshan)..
Once we finish our prayers at the Perumal sannidhi, we have to go to the Thaayar who is housed in a separate shrine.. Thaayar here is known as Sengamalavalli Thaayar.. once we finish our prayers at the Thaayar sannidhi we have to move on to Lord Sudharshana's shrine..
Once we complete our prayers at Lord Sudharshana's shrine, we move on to Lord Hanuman or Anjaneya's sannidhi..here Anjaneya is in the form of Kariya Siddhi Anjaneya or one who can grant us the strength to finish any task we undertake..
Here are some other interesting aspects of this temple..there is a swastik shaped tank in this temple called the mamiyar (mother in law) maatuponnu (daughter in law) theertham..it is built in such a way that anyone bathing in any end cant see the other one ensuring privacy..
There are 18 steps to enter in to the main temple signifying the 18 chapters of the Gita, before the Bali peetam, there are 4 steps signifying the 4 Vedas, there are 5 steps leading to the sanctum sanctorum of Perumal signifying the 5 elements
There are further 8 steps signifying the Ashtakshara mantram and there after 24 steps signifying the 24 syllables of the Gayatri mantra..isnt it mind blowing to think how much effort our ancestors have taken to build every temple?
Considering the enormous historical and spiritual significance of this temple.. request all of you to kindly visit this temple at least once in your lifetime and get the blessings of Thaayar and Perumal.. will come back with one more DD in a little bit.. 🙂🙏
Now we move on to our next Chozha naadu DD which is known as Thiruvanbil or Thiruanbil.. this DD is located around 25 km from Trichy.. Moolavar here is in sayana (reclining) thirukolam and is called Vadivazhagiya Nambi.. Utsavar is known as Sundararaja Perumal..
Thaayar is known as Sundaravalli Thaayar.. legend has it that Sage Suthaba was doing penance under water at the pushkarni (holy water body) of this temple and did not ackonwledge the presence of Sage Durvasa who had come there.. this angered Sage Durvasa..
He cursed Sage Suthaba to become a toad or a mandukam..Sage Suthaba pleaded with Sage Durvasa to release him from the curse for which Sage Durvasa said that only Lord Maha Vishnu can release him from his curse.. Sage Suthaba continued to do penance underwater as a toad..
He was eventually released from his curse by the Perumal of this DD.. since he was a toad and did penance at this pushkarni, the pushkarni to this day is called as Manduka Pushkarni..Sage Valmiki and Lord Brahma have also observed penance at this DD..
Thirumazhisai Azhwar has dedicated pasurams to the perumal of this temple.. it is said that King Sundara Chozha was an ardent devotee of the presiding deity of this temple and used to pray to him before going to any war..
We now move on to our next DD which is known as Appakudathan Temple or Thirupper Nagar.. this temple is located in the village of Koviladi which is about 30 kms from Trichy..this temple is also one of the Pancha Ranga Kshetrams (1 among 5 Ranganatha temples)..
Perumal is known by the name of Appala Rangan or Appakudathan.. Thaayar is known as Kamala Valli Thaayar..this DD is one amongst the 5 Ranganatha Kshetrams.. the others being Adi Rangan temple at Srirangapattinam, Sri Ranganathan temple at Srirangam
Parimala Ranganathar temple at Thiru Indalur and Sarangapani temple at Kumbakonam.. Moolavar Sri Appakudathan blesses his devotees in a bhujangasayanam or reclining posture holding a holy pot in his hand..
As per legend, King Ubhamanyu who was cursed by Sage Durvasa had lost all his physical strength.. he was told that he had to do annadanam for atleast a lakh people every day.. to test him, Perumal came in the form of an old man and consumed all the food prepared for the annadanam
A shocked Ubhamanyu was perplexed with the never ceasing hunger of this old man who said that his hunger could only be appeased if a kudam or pot of Neyyappam (a sweet) is offered to him..the king later realized it was Perumal and offered the kudam of Neyyappam readily..
He was relieved of his curse with Perumal's blessings and Perumal was called Appakudathan henceforth..Perumal is also believed to have relieved Sage Markandeya of his curse.. the temple is called Koviladi as it is downstream of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple..
4 Azhwars, Nammazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Periyazhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar have sung pasurams in the praise of this Lord.. it is believed that Periyazhwar attained the lotus feet of Sriman Narayanan at this Divya Desam..
It is also believed that Swami Nammazhwar sang his last pasuram in the praise of this Lord of Tiruppernagar.. please visit Tiruppernagar and get the blessings of this Perumal..🙂🙏
Good day all..Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah| Srimathe Vedanta Guravey Namah| The next DD in Chozha naadu would be Thirukandiyur..Thirukandiyur is a village located in the outskirts of Thiruvaiyaru.. as suggested adding a google maps links to the temple - https://goo.gl/maps/5miPxuVf5s4HE8Sn6
In this temple Perumal is in Ninra thirukolam (Standing posture)..Moolavar is known as Hara Saaba Vimochanan or Brigunathar, Thaayar is known as Kamalavalli Thaayar.. the Utsavar is known as Kamalanathar..why did Perumal get that name? we will see in the upcoming series of tweets
Lord Mahadeva was cursed as he had cut off the 5th head of Brahma and the head stuck to his hand.. part of the curse was absolved when he prayed to Lord Maha Vishnu at Thirukarambanur DD which we saw earlier..He was relieved of the curse of praying to Perumal at this DD
Since Lord Mahadeva is also known as Haran or Hara and Lord Vishnu absolved him of his curse at this DD, the Perumal is called Hara Saaba Vimochanan.. Since Lord Mahadeva took a dip at the holy tank or pushkarni of this temple, the holy tank is called Kapala Theertham..
It is also said that Sage Bhrigu, King Mahabali and Chandra (the moon god) absolved themselves of their sins at this DD.. Thirumangai Azhwar has dedicated around 10 pasurams to the Lord of this DD..the temple is believed to exist from Treta Yuga and predate the Srirangam temple
This temple is said to absolve anybody with brahmahatthi dosham.. Kindly visit this beautiful temple to get the blessings of Sri Hara saaba Vimochanan.. will do atleast 2 more DD's today through the course of the day.. 🙂🙏
The next chozha naadu DD is located in vadakurungaduthurai, a village in the outskirts of Kumbakonam and is also called Thirukoodalur.. it is located on the Kumbakonam-Thiruvaiyaru road.. it is best to set base at Kumbakonam and visit this temple https://goo.gl/maps/Mnc6afNzX8Gc49io9
Perumal is known Jagath Rakshakan or Vayyam kaatha Perumal (the one who saves the world) and he is in a ninra thirukolam (standing posture), Thaayar is known as Padmasini and also by the name of Pushpavalli..
There are multiple legends associated with this temple.. It is said that Devas along with Nandaka Muni assembled at this place to offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and hence this DD got the name Koodalur which means gathering or meeting place..
King Ambarisha who was immersed in the worship of Lord Vishnu failed to acknowledge the presence of Sage Durvasa who in turn cursed him..the King prayed to Perumal who cannot stand any harm to his devotees especially if they are engaged in worshipping him..
Perumal sent his Sudharshana Chakra after Sage Durvasa who after running away from it finally prayed to Lord Vishnu who eventually pardoned him..It is said that King Ambarisha built this temple for Perumal..
Since Ambarisha built this temple, this perumal also has another name called Ambarisha Varadhar..it is said that the vigrahams of the temple were washed away in floods and were recovered by Rani Mangammal who in turn installed the vigrahams back and also renovated the temple..
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah| Vedanta Guravey Namah| The next Chozha naadu DD we will be covering is Kapisthalam.. this temple is located about 3 kms from Papanasam near Kumbakonam.. you can reach this place easily from Kumbakonam https://goo.gl/maps/sSBmpwkGXSPspq7G7
Here Perumal is in the sayana thirukolam (reclining posture) and is called Gajendra Varadan.. Thaayar is known by the name Ramamanivalli Thaayar..this temple is also one of the 5 Krishnaranya kshetrams.. why is Perumal called by this name? Let us look at it in the upcoming tweets
As per legend King Indrajuman who was an ardent devotee of Lord Maha Vishnu and while he was immersed in his prayers to the Lord forgot to acknowledge the presence of Sage Durvasa who happened to come by.. and was cursed by the sage..
The King immediately apologized to the sage for this and the sage moved by his innocence said that he would become an elephant but continue to be immersed in bhakti to Lord Maha Vishnu.. in the same temple tank there was a demon by the name of koohoo..
He used to trouble all that came to take a dip in the tank..he was cursed by a sage that he would be born as a crocodile in his next birth..as it happened, Gajendra the elephant who was King Indrajuman in previous birth came to drink water from this tank..
Koohoo who was reborn as a crocodile caught hold of the elephants leg.. Gajendra who was an ardent devotee of Lord Maha Vishnu screamed for his help addressing him as "Adimoolamey" and the Lord released him from the grip of the crocodile by sending the Sudharshana Chakra..
Both Gajendra and the crocodile returned to their original form by the grace of Perumal..Since Perumal came to save Gajendra the elephant, he came to be known as Gajendra Varadan.. Since Vayaputra worshipped Lord Maha Vishnu at this DD, it is called Kabisthalam..
Thirumangai Azhwar has sung a pasuram dedicated to the Perumal of this DD.. this is part of the 5 Krishnaranya Kshetrams like I mentioned earlier.. the others being Thirukannangudi, Thirukannapuram, Thirukannamangai and Thirukovilur..
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah| Sri Vedanta Guravey Namah| The next DD in Chozha naadu is located in Pullaboothangudi which is located about 13km from Kumbakonam.. https://goo.gl/maps/fhSjEHSJp7KwWDfGA
Moolavar is known as Valvil Ramar and he is in a sayan thirukolam (reclining posture)..Thaayar is called as Hemambujavalli or Potramaraiyal (the one who emerged from the Lotus).. it is a rare sight to see Perumal (also Lord Rama's name) in a reclining posture..
Legend says that Lord Rama rested here in this place after offering moksham to the eagle king Jatayu.. since Sita devi was not present when Lord Rama performed the last rites for Jatayu and it is customary for wife of the individual to be present..
Bhoomi Devi appeared from a Lotus and was present with Lord Rama when he performed the last rites of Jatayu.. hence the Thaayar here also has the name of Potramaraiyal or the one who emerged from the Lotus..
Kulashekara Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar have sung pasurams in the praise of the Lord of this DD.. the birthplace of Tondaradipodi Azhwar, Thirumandangudi is also located just about 2kms from this temple.. Kindly visit this small yet significant and beautiful temple..
The next DD that we are going to visit in Chozha Naadu is at Thiru Aadanoor.. this temple is located at around 12 km from Kumbakonam and can be easily reached by road.. https://goo.gl/maps/R5miHBSefMvbDaqc9
Perumal in this DD is in sayana thirukolam (reclining posture) and is known as Aandalakkum Ayyan and Thaayar is known as Ranganayaki Thaayar.. Why is Perumal addressed by this name? We will see in the upcoming tweets..
Legend has it that an affluent devotee who was engrossed in the service to Perumal was exploited by those who worked under him who used his bhakti to their advantage and swindled a lot of his money and his wealth hence rendering him penniless.. Perumal appeared in a dream
to the devottee and asked him to instruct the folks who cheated him to come to the kollidam river banks telling them that their dues would be settled.. the workers were met by old man (Perumal himself) at the banks of the Kollidam..
The old man started distributing measures of sand from the river bed.. the ones who honestly worked were surprised to see that the sand turned in to precious stones while the ones who cheated the devotee got only plain mud.. they started chasing the old man..
who revealed his true form and made them realize their mistake.. it is said that the Perumal of this DD has also given his divine darshan to Kamadenu (the holy cow) and Thirumangai Azhwar.. Kulashekara Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar have dedicated pasurams to this Perumal..
It is also believed that once upon a time this temple used to be buried under the earth.. a Kashmiri princess was afflicted by a magic spell.. Perumal of this DD appeared in the dream of her father, the King and asked him to renovate this temple..
Hence it is believed that anybody who is under any kind of magic spell or witchcraft would be relieved of it if they visit this temple and seek the blessings of this Perumal.. Kindly do visit this temple with your family and get the blessings of the Perumal and Thaayar here
I would like to end today's list with a significant DD which is next in the list of Chozha naadu DDs and is right in the heart of Kumbakonam city.. it is the beautiful and magnificient Sarangapani temple..
https://goo.gl/maps/ENmpY9nbQE2ZKNjJA
What really would draw us to the Sarangapani temple is the height of the Rajagopuram or its temple tower which stands at an imposing 173 ft.. Perumal is in sayana thirukolam but in Utthana sayanam (half reclining posture)..we shall see why in the upcoming tweets..
It so happened that once Sage Bhrigu had gone to Vaikuntam to see Lord Maha Vishnu.. Perumal who was engrossed in a deep conversation with Thaayar did not acknowledge the presence of the Rishi who in great anger kicked Perumal in his chest..
Thaayar who saw this was very angry as she resides in Perumals heart.. what angered her more was Perumal apologized to the Sage for ignoring his presence but did not pacify Thaayar.. she left Vaikuntam in anger, reached earth and took the form of Padmavathi..
Perumal did pursue her and finally got married to her but her anger had not completely subsided.. Sage Bhrigu then sought her apology and requested that she be born as his daughter in his next birth..Sage Bhrigu was then born as Hemarishi and did severe penance..
to get Thaayar as his daughter.. on Perumals request, Thaayar agreed.. emerged from the potramarai tank from amidst thousand lotuses and was thus named Komalavalli who is also the Thaayar of this temple..Perumal then descended as Aravamudhan in his chariot..
The chariot was drawn by horses and elephants..he then resided in the nearby Someshwaran temple till he got Thaayars consent for the marraige and eventually got married to her.. since he came with the Sarangam (bow of Sri Perumal) in his hand, he is called Sarangapani..
Many Azhwars have been mesmerized by the Perumal of this DD and have dedicated many pasurams to him..they are Andal, her dad Periazhwar, Boothathazhwar, Peiazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Nammazhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar..
There is an interesting incident involving Thirumazhisai Azhwar and the Perumal of this DD.. When Thirumazhisai Azhwar visited Sarangapani Perumal and seeing that the Lord was in a constant reclining posture, sang the following pasuram to Perumal..
"Nadandha Kaalgal Nondhavo Nadunga Gnyalam Enamai
Edandha Mei Kulungavo Elangu Maal Varai Churam
Kadandha Kaal Parandha Kavirikkarai Kudaindhaiyul
Kidandhavaru Ezhundhirundhu Pesu Vaazhi Kesanae" basically asking Perumal to get up since Azhwar had come to visit him..
To oblige Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Perumal actally started to get up from his reclining posture. When he was half way up, Azhwar realizing his folly requested Perumal to kindly stop and not move any further and embarass him.
To this day, at the Sarangapani temple, Perumal is neither in a full reclining posture nor is he sitting but is mid way..This is known as the “Utthana Sayanam” where Perumal was willing to listen to his favorite devotee. It is probably the only Vishnu temple where you would find
Perumal in this posture. This is also one of the Pancha Ranga Kshetrams.. I have listed the other Ranga Kshetrams in my tweets on Koviladi Appakudathan DD.. it was at this DD that Sri Nathamunigal heard Nammazhwars pasurams dedicated to Aravamudan starting with "Aara Amudhey"
