I never need an excuse to watch my favorite Star Trek film, but it is especially appropriate when Christopher Plummer's revels now have ended. Parting is such sweet sorrow.
The video quality of the Blu-Ray is merely adequate. This film needs a 4K remaster, preferably of the extended version.
In case you're wondering, yes Valeris's uniform bugs the crap out of me.
Cliff Eidelman's score for this movie is beautiful.
I love a good model shot.
I also enjoy playing "spot the slightly redressed TNG set."
I sincerely hope that Christopher Plummer had the time of his life hamming it up as Chang. He certainly looks like he is.
Does Spock keep a supply of tracking devices in his pocket just in case he needs one for when Kirk goes off on some foolhardy mission? Actually, that tracks. Carry on.
Keeping the same Klingon ambassador from Star Trek IV is some nice continuity. Also, hey look, it's another TNG set.
I like how one Klingon in the courtroom laughs at McCoy's arthritis joke.
This isn't an obvious TNG set, so they brought in a TNG actor instead.
Spock claiming to be descended from Sherlock Holmes is more believable than the old Vulcan proverb about Richard Nixon.
What did Rand do to get demoted between III and VI?
Oh hi Christian Slater.
More movies should use the word "legerdemain."
"I've been dead before."
The explosion shot so nice they used it twice.
This story, which at its heart as about our heroes acknowledging their prejudices and overcoming them, is what Star Trek is all about.
The signatures at the end leading into the credits… perfection. This movie is an incredible last hurrah for the TOS cast, and I love it with all my heart.
