I had a sad thought what if #countryMusic instead of opting for real change decide to tokenize a few #lgbtq artists just like they've done to Black Country artists. it's a depressing thought but a real possibility especially after seeing the events of this week play out.
and I'm sorry TJ of @brothersosborne because it puts a burden on your shoulders because of your status to not let that happen. The #lgbtq youth in rural communities need you to fight for them. You are not the token gay they can trot out to prove the industry isnt homophobic.
you have to push them to take action to make it so. so that your fellow closeted artists feel they can too. because there is a whole #queercountry community that is already invisible. fellow artists that would fit on the radio next to you easily
artists like @cmrnhwthrn @michellebrooke @katiepruitt @brandonstansell and so many more who have been denied a chance in mainstream because of their sexuality. and it's not popular to say this but its 2021 and it is way past time. i got from your coming out speech
that you understand the importance of the moment not just for you but the whole industry. it's not about proving one person can be out and gay in country music.
it's about showing there is room for everyone in the genre. maybe you can recruit some of your fellow closeted artists to help you share the burden of the task. sorry y'all there is no perfect time. but this might be the closest we'll get
