I was curious what drives the decision on only requiring masks in Middle and High Schools, but not in Elementary Schools. Looking at rates of COVID in kids is tricky because younger kids have higher asymptomatic rates. So maybe we can compare COVID rates in teachers?
Unfortunately BC does not collect data on occupation of cases (other than health care occupations). But WorkSafeBC has claims data! That does not capture all cases, but "allowed" claims might give some indication. Last table on this page has what we want. https://www.worksafebc.com/en/about-us/covid-19-updates/claims/covid-19-claims-by-industry-sector
At least in terms of WorkPlaceBC claims it not look like elementary school teacher rates are lower than secondary, if anything it's the opposite. But also, look at the nurses. Someone get them proper PPE please, still no N95 when looking after COVID patients! 😰
Back to elementary vs secondary schools, still confused what drives the differences in rules.
