Ethereum as a layer 1 has been struggling to gain further adoption due to its high gas fee and low TPS. Layer 2 solutions such as Rollups are a potential remedy to the problem, but they are not perfect.

1/ Harmony with the Horizon trustless bridge to Ethereum offers better characteristics than other Layer 2s, including much faster withdrawal time, 2 seconds txn finality, cheap and faster asset bridging, and the capability for generic computation to build any kinds of Dapps.

2/ Compared with Optimistic Rollup which puts data onchain in Ethereum for fraud proof, Harmony doesn't require this so it puts no burden on Ethereum network. Txn data are stored natively on Harmony and are replicated to up to 1000 nodes for data availability and verifications.

3/ Optimistic Rollup requires 7+ days withdrawal/challenge period to move asset back to Ethereum due to the usage of fraud proof. In contrast, it only takes a few mins to withdraw assets from Harmony, because harmony provides high security and simple verifiability of its txns.

4/ Compared with ZK Rollup or Plasma, Harmony offers generic computation capability so any complicated Dapp logic can be implemented without problems. There is no limitation in terms of what kind of Dapps that can be built on Harmony.

5/ Thanks to our unique Horizon bridge design using MMR-based checkpoints, the verification of asset transfers from Harmony to Ethereum can be batched and only requires the checking of one single BLS signature, which made the cost of asset bridging very cheap.

6/ As an Interoperable Layer 2, Harmony offers the exact same set of tools which are most familiar to Ethereum developers and users, including web3.js, ethers.js, truffle, @metamask_io and many more. To use these tools, they just simply switch the chainID to Harmony's chainID.

7/ On Harmony, users transactions can be confirmed with finality in only 2 seconds and the fee is as low as $0.000001. This is as fast and as cheap as other layer 2 solutions such as Rollups.
