Why am I on strike? I've worked for British gas for 19 years. I've been proud help out in the homes of all our customers, especially in this terrible year. The elderly and vulnerable and the scared. Customers who have had no human contact in over a year. This is who we are!
My job isn't just servicing or repairing boilers, I listen to people, empathise with them. Someone who may have lost their partner or just lonely and who have stories to tell and no one to tell them too. I will make them a cuppa maybe change a lightbulb or put their rubbish out,
None of these things are written into my contract, they are not tangible or measured requirements. I do them because I can and care that's all! I know the company is concerned for the future but do not visit your previous bad decisions on us!
What do our customers want? It's not rocket science how about somebody answering the phone, or keeping an appointment. They don't want glitterballs and promises not kept, shiny all singing all dancing apps and products. They want reliability, honesty, integrity....Us!
I've watched while high level decisions have led to pathetic consequences and inane knee jerk reactions.
I am not striking because I want more money for less hours or pay rises or more holiday pay, I'm striking because of severe unfairness not just for my industry but for us all.
We are not doormats or stupid, we don't give up our pay and securities easily. We worry and are scared, but this is too important to just lie down and take. This I believe is a struggle for restoring a balance and fairness for all our workers in this Country It's time to say no!
Frankly I'm severely fucked off with the greed and avarice of our so called betters who really don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves who would willingly drag us all down in a race to the bottom to protect their own wealth and entitlement.
