It is not at all a good look to have liberal-centrist Catholics defending the way Catholic dioceses have had enormous amounts of money dispensed by the government during the pandemic, while those same dioceses are sitting on unimaginably large assets. /1

Saying that, oh, well, the church uses money given to it to pay salaries and to help the poor does nothing to make all of us under what we are seeing about the enormous greed of the institution as people are desperate for money to pay rent and buy food. /2

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: liberal-centrist Catholics are every bit as much of a problem when it comes to reforming the Catholic institution as are right l-wing traditionalist ones. The defensiveness out of which they work is simply unfathomable and shameful. /3
