My brothers and I once dragged some scum out of a robbed car and took the car home, called the Gardaí and they didn't arrive until the next morning.

I once called because there was a gang of over 20 kicking the ever loving shit out of a lad and they just never came.
My brother's car got robbed before, we called the Gardaí because you have to for insurance purposes, but to get the car back we called the local heads. Who got the car back.

This government has never had a measured plan for working class or otherwise troubled areas.
My first interaction with the Gardaí was when I was twelve, I was walking to the shop with my cousin when two of them were walking back from it. They stopped us, said the shop was robbed and asked us who did it, we said we didn't know and so they just started to hit us.
When I grew up and witnessed the behaviour of the Gardaí in areas like Donabate, Ballsbridge and the likes. I was genuinely shocked.

You'd be treated differently though once they knew where you were from. So you learn to adjust your accent to avoid the mistreatment by Gardaí.
Whatever we do about the rise in crime, the same old same old can't be the answer.

Address poverty, mental health, substance misuse, low employment & education.

Decriminalise the use of drugs, increase sentences for selling heroin & crack etc. Legalise, regulate & tax cannabis.
Take away the revenue stream that feeds organised crime & gang violence. Legalise cannabis to stop people falling into debt traps & being forced to deal harder drugs etc

I see gangs of kids, literally children, being used as distributors. Legalisation of cannabis would stop it
As long as there is a market for drugs, a load of young lads who aren't in school and who are poor... we'll have this type of violence.

Ending prohibition and investing in mental heath services is the obvious and only long term answer to actually address these issues.
