I'm home!! I’m so relieved…. And absolutely exhausted. It was a grueling experience. But I want to try to at least say a couple things.
I dont know exactly what I expected would happen when I frantically sent off several quick emails on that afternoon two weeks ago, after being told a petition for my civil commitment had been initiated, and that nurses were coming to take my things.
I figured I had minutes left with my phone, and I wanted SOMEBODY on the outside to know what had happened to me. But in just hours an army of you had gathered to support me. And the hope that that provided to me is indescribable and carried me through.
All the comments, and shares, and donations, and phone calls, and letters written on my behalf all contributed to my release. They absolutely felt you. And they knew you were watching.
I wish I could thank each of you here but I will have to limit it to a few of you who were at the tip of the spear in my rescue. In no particular order:
@cazzachr . You quickly became my point woman. In addition to gathering all my records and other relevant info, researching and writing, you managed to coordinate all of the moving parts needed to get me free.
@MBergerLaw . My unofficial lawyer. You showed up almost immediately and went to work providing invaluable legal insight and guidance. You and Caroline are a powerhouse duo, and i’m so fortunate to have had you. You two went to war for me.
@bhsuborger , and everyone at @MEActNet . I know you have half a dozen high priority projects going right now but you still made room to make sure I had everything I needed. Your help was invaluable.
Alyssa Knapp - you dove right in and set up critical fund raising -- which has been very successful thanks to the incredible generosity of all of those who learned about my story and could donate.
@lisaalioto and @Suzanne30150545 of @MinnesotaMECFS . I think Lisa was the first person who responded to my plea for help. You got things moving right away for me. And Suzanne who came to my hospital room to help me sign important documents. And did it at a moments notice.
@davidtuller1 , @StevenLubet , and MaryAnn Murakami Brower - all of whom wrote important letters to the hospital’s administration. Thank you.
@JanetDafoe and Ron Davis - you provided guidance and support to me, and even offered expert opinion to my doctors, which was unfortunately and unwisely refused.
Dr’s Ruby Tam, Ami Mac, and Nigel Speight - you supported me with phone calls and letters to the hospital, and generally made yourselves available to me when I really needed it.
And last but certainly not least, my sister Ashley, and my good buddy Luke. You made many trips to the hospital to make sure I had everything I needed.
This was a nightmare, but if these very misguided doctors had gotten their way it could have been so much worse. I dodged a massive bullet.
I dont have the words to express just how thankful I am for everyone’s help. We really are part of an amazing, loving, and supportive community. And I really got to feel that these past few weeks. Thank you.
