The question isn’t “did V*n Jo*es help get people out of prison?”
The question is “how did he help normalize a white supremacy that hurt them when they got out-and hundreds of thousands more?”
YOU CAN FIGHT AGAINST INCARCERATION WITHOUT *PARTYING WITH WHITE SUPREMACISTS*

Anything outside of this is spin. It’s narrative control. Black folks aren’t stupid
And I’ve had this conversation directly, years ago.
There were *many* opportunities to be clear and decisive about who Trump is while pursuing your policy goals. To stop grinning in the pics. Literally thousands of activists and organizers and advocates did it for four years

I really didn’t want to say much about this but the truth is the truth and this spin is offensive gaslighting.
So is “none of my critics have gotten folks together to do things for folks ‘at the bottom.’” It’s arrogant. It’s false.

Jails and prisons shouldn’t exist. And there are MANY organizations who have been bailing folks out and fighting by incarceration and getting prisons closed WITHOUT fist bumping The Orange Menace.
Shout out to @actionstl and The hundreds of bail projects and EJI & more.

The false binary of “work with trump and free people or don’t and just complain” is BULL.
456,000 people are dead from a disease that was met with little to no response from a “president” he gave cover to. And a disproportionate amount of those folks are from the same marginalized communities. “Math matters too,” as he said.
And that’s just one massive example.

Believe what you want to believe. Take pics with who you want to take pics with. Dance with the orange menace if you feel like it.
But don’t insult the people who question your flip flopping, and don’t erase the people who do plenty of work without your resources.

I really wanted to *mind my business* but the fallacies of this conversation and the number of ”allies” and *white Republicans* condescending *actual Black organizers and people* made me itch.
Unlearning how we’ve internalized dominant culture ain’t easy. But Trump was pretty obviously one of the worst manifestations of evil we’d seen in a minute. There was no mystery. No redeeming value. No nuance. Just evil.
Anyway I’m not gonna debate this. Feel how you want about the person, but for certain stop with these insulting fallacies like work hasn’t been happening without cozying up to Trump.
Shout out to @sunny for taking seriously the demand of the public to hold the media accountable for how we got here.
You the people’s champ and we love you.
