1) I would like to share a story with other white astrologers about racism, especially racism as expressed by the body/and the subconscious.
2) I worked in retail in NYC in my early twenties& had a white colleague who LOVED Lil Wayne, read books by black authors, &so on. She grew up in an area that is totally white, moving to NYC was her first experience in a diverse place. No black people worked at our store.
3) I was not friends with her per se, but we were both smokers and both worked at the same store, so sometimes we would have a cigarette together.
4) We were outside smoking & a group of black men pass by. She COMPLETELY freezes, stops talking, looks down, and I can see that she is terrified. I tried asking her what was up with her, but she wouldn't communicate with me.
5) So, this is someone who loves black culture, but has a total fear response when black people pass by. I don't know if the men who passed by noticed her response, but even if they didn't,
6) it hit me that the sort of body language my coworker was displaying was something they probably saw A LOT. This kind of nervous system feedback is traumatic, it's the kind of microagression that builds over time to be, in fact, very aggressive
7) Please, white astros, don't be like my retail coworker. Don't be that colleague. We are online but your ACTIVE passivity is OBVIOUS in the things you tweet. I would like to stop telling stories like "my coworker who likes black culture but not black people"
