On a serious note, specifically about international sex trafficking, anyone who is asking "How do they get away with it for so long?" Or looking for the underlying material conditions should take a hard look at neoliberal globalization as the main enabler of these crimes.

Our contemporary globalization is build on free trade agreements and the unrestricted flow of capital across borders. For people, however, there is no freedom of movement like for capital.

These massive trafficking rings are perpetrated by individuals that wrap themselves in their endless capital and economic viability. Capitalism only works when capital is flowing, so everyone around these capitalists hyper-incentivizes flow towards themselves

They do this with tax breaks, private property privileges, specialized legislation, and removing them from any legal accountability to keep the money flowing in. Since average people don't have freedom of movement, this is how employment and revenue is generated within borders.

Everyone who could help these victims are trapped between doing the right thing and losing their financial livelihood. Even if they try help the victims, it might get buried and make things worse. These bystanders, as well as victims, often feel its better to heal without justice

You know what this is exactly parallel to? The exploitation in animation, VFX, and games. People are horribly exploited and abused, and no one will help because it would jeopardize the money. The clients might leave. The sector might collapse. The similarities are overwhelming

The contracts are brought in by the need for capital to flow and the inability of people to move with it. Governments incentivize with tax credits, and then ignore flagrant labour violations.

I spoke on numerous occasions with the BC government on this serious and horrifying exploitation of workers. I spoke with the minister of labour and minister of jobs and they slapped the studios wrists, told them to shape up and changed no laws.

This is the same mechanism by which these massive trafficking rings operate and nothing gets done about it. This is a direct result of free trade global neoliberalism.
