THREAD: I was watching the 1987 movie "Back To The Beach" starring 60's stars Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello with cameos from Fishbone, Surf Punks and Pee-Wee Herman features generic 80's movie "punks" who listen to a punk song I didn't recognize
The soundtrack features people like Eddie Money, Til Tuesday/Aimee Mann and Stevie Ray Vaughan covering 60's beach party tunes but this song was not on it, so I looked into it...
The song is "I Hate You" by Edge of Etiquette, and it also appears in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in a scene where Spock takes out a punk blaring music from a boombox
Leonard Nimoy suggested the scene after a similar encounter in NYC, where he fantasized about using Spock's Vulcan nerve pinch on someone blasting punk. However, the original song picked was more new wave, and producer @KirkThatcher convinced them to let him record a new one
They recorded it in the hallway of a recording studio for a more authentic sound and Kirk even got to play the punk in the scene, which he's known for even more than his actual profession: MUPPETEER, who worked on ET, Dinosaurs and Return of the Jedi
After an unrelated meeing with Kevin Feige, the bus punk character made a secret cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming in this legendary scene with @zachcherrygmail yelling at Spider-Man to "do a flip"
Anyway the song wound up in Back To The Beach somehow but wasn't officially released til a special edition of the Star Trek IV soundtrack came out.

More Trek characters should mosh to it in a Holodeck Club Minimal instead of The Pirates of Penzance or whatever they do in there
