Every time I see games come out with an initial roster featuring numerous Black & brown characters, I slip further away from the possibility of ever touching Overwatch again https://twitter.com/DrinkUmbrellaa/status/1356855843392684035
Diversity is not a monolith nor do we all look for it the same. What I want is more (fat and/or queer) Black women in games. In 2014 Overwatch seemed like a pinnacle of representation. Now it feels antiquated.

I mean look at this. Blizzard could never. https://twitter.com/SourceDuMal/status/1357739513666150402
I'm reminded of an old Eddie Murphy sketch: when you're starving a cracker is the most delicious thing you've ever tasted. But after a while, you realize it's just a bland ass cracker. I harp on OVW because it meant SO much to me for years and it could have as great as it seemed.
With the news that OVW2 will not be arriving until (at earliest) 2022 and knowing no new characters will be added to OVW until then (which is weird), that means Overwatch will have gone 7 YEARS without a playable Black female character.

Blizzard don't care about us.
I have appreciated where Overwatch has given Black women a check, including VAs for Athena & Orisa and a Black woman writing Efi & Lucio's book. Without diminishing that, it is still important to see prominent Black women as characters with their own stories in games.
When you compare opportunities granted to Asian & white VAs/devs thru creation of these characters to those for Black folks ESP. Black women it is abysmally less. A game built on global diversity has spent more time courting its white & Asian bases than actually being diverse.
Hell adjacently Blizzard just dropped support of T2 South American teams.

If it ain't about getting money from America, Europe, or Asia and catering to those bases, Blizzard don't give a fuck and it is reflected in almost every level of their operations. https://twitter.com/owpathtopro/status/1357753340482920448
I want to put money toward work created by Black folks and work that may not be by Black folls, but at least approaches diversity/representation earnestly, respectfully & thoughtfully and is making an honest effort to diversify their leadership & workforce. Blizzard IMO ain't it.
