People often ask me what has promoted my efforts on #AutismAwareness and it wasn't until recently that I realised people are actually asking whether my children or family members are on the spectrum.

I noticed recently when a mother asked which one of my children had ASD.
I understand this is because people care more about stories than data.

And when I answer these questions, it's disappointing to some people because I know they yearn to have someone that really understands and experiences their struggle.
One of the biggest priorities is to break down the taboo associated with talking about children with developmental disorders, but parents in #Kurdistan are difficult to persuade.

Not only are they suffering in silence due to perceived shame, but their children as well.
Early intervention for children will fundamentally improve the quality of their life, improve speech, and behaviour.

That can not happen if parents are still in denial, but if there's a structure in place that supports them, perhaps they'll be more likely to receive help.
There are many complex/difficult challenges for those with learning difficulties in #Kurdistan & Middle East because the lack of educational performance is often confused with lack of effort (but in many instances e.g. dyslexia that's not the case).
It's very easy to talk about corruption, monopolisation of resources, and throw out empty statements, but trying to make a difference, to establish a structure is incredibly difficult, especially when the solution requires public awareness and willingness.
Anyhoo. Happy Friday 🎊
