Earlier this week there were misleading reports of a 4-year-old boy being ‘referred to Prevent’ in 2019.
We have taken time to establish the facts of this and I want to clarify these in the following thread:
We have taken time to establish the facts of this and I want to clarify these in the following thread:
2/ The boy’s school rightly contacted the local police after he disclosed that “guns and bombs” were in his shed at home and a perfectly reasonable home call took place. A local police officer spoke to mum.
3/ After it transpired that the child’s comments related to weaponry on a computer game, the incident was closed as ‘good intention but no further action required’.
4/ At no stage was a Prevent referral made nor the case ever dealt with by Counter Terrorism Police. Neither were we approached for comment before publication to clarify this.
5/ We welcome challenge and scrutiny, and we have regular meetings with our independent CT Advisory Network.
Debate has to be based on facts and conducted in good faith, otherwise we undermine trust in safeguarding practices, which simply makes vulnerable people less safe.
