Before The Wellerman vanishes from the collective consciousness, I want to do a little thread on modern folk music for those who enjoyed a slice of trad and might be interested in hearing more up to date takes on the genre
Got to start with @JimMoray whose early work is a smorgasbord of experimental sounds on trad tunes. Take, for example his re-imagining of sinister ballad Lucy Wan as a grime track
For something a bit more classical, the little known but hugely talented Jenny M Thomas and her sweeping orchestral takes on folk music
Rather better know are Bellowhead and their Big Band stylings - not quite so much to my taste but it's hard not to love such infectious enthusiasm
Folk also had its equivalent of stadium rock in Show of Hands - not so much trad material but with anthems like this, that's entirely forgivable
Finally, due to lack of interest, here's Thom Ashworth, a bass player who makes full use of his instruments sinister stylings in bringing the inherent darkness in a lot of trad tunes to the fore
