really curious about what level of reality the 'we don't need HS2 because everyone will work from home' crowd are operating on I won't lie
fwiw I think covid has probably broken the back of the taboo for a lot of people, but it's more a case of homeworking being utilised more regularly rather than being the norm - going into the office when you need to rather than as the norm
it's the sort of pattern of working/commuting that basically lends itself to public transport being a more attractive option ahead of the car, limiting rail capacity in response is just so short-sighted
but it really speaks to the kind of perspectives/background of a lot of these people because it's basically an incredibly metrolib office-dwelling argument that's plainly really unrepresentative of the way a plurality of people live and work
idk man, limiting UK-rail capacity because of concern trolling regarding a narrow portion of the work/commute mix doesn't really feel like a sensible way to run transit policy - but I suppose that's the Greens in a nutshell I suppose
