Progressive homeschooling parents who say "not all homeschoolers," instead of addressing the harm present within their own community, are falling for a very old trap. https://twitter.com/_cassiopeiamoon/status/1357767917375520773
@C_Stroop tell me if you think I'm off base, but the way that progressives act toward homeschool alumni who speak out feels like a direct extension of the evangelical persecution complex.
As far as I know, evangelicals are the ones who have continually pushed for little to no homeschool oversight, and they also made up the bulk of the pro-homeschool activist community.
They brought their persecution complex with them.
They brought their persecution complex with them.
In the same way that evangelicals believe the whole world hates and is out to get them, (bc it serves their purposes), they also created the narrative that everyone hates homeschoolers and is out to get them.
In reality, this shouldn't be further from the truth. Homeschoolers continue to have no oversight. Some of us go without even basics like birth certificates (think about what that means of you ever want to move out of an abusive home), or even seeing doctors regularly.
You can feasibly go your whole life as a homeschooler and never see a mandated reporter.
But evangelicals know what they're doing. The more they fear monger, the tighter their community gets, the closer it becomes, bc no one wants to speak up. Everyone wants to protect the in-group.
Progressive homeschoolers provide an easy front for evangelical abuse when they refuse to address what's happening bc NOT ALL homeschoolers
For responsible homeschool oversight to be achieved, progressive homeschool parents HAVE to come on board. They have to stop buying the absolute garbage rhetoric the right-wing puts forward.
It's a lie and it's hurting kids who aren't your own, just to make your own life marginally easier.
Do better. I deserved better. All the kids going through the same thing right now deserve better.
