Routine is a bit roller coaster atm. I try to take a break from the house at least once a week. I didn’t go outside for the month of January. I appreciate small trips even more. A trip to grab Caribbean food, my first and only time at @MacMillsLibrary archives. Small graces.
My current diet and eating habits are pretty much like my cheese grater. A bit dysfunctional. I’m sure I am not the only one who is impacted by this diet issue, but I wanted to highlight a moment of humour for you all in the midst of this troubling fact.
In between coursework, doing Sherman-related research, teaching Critical Race Studies and a myriad of other commitments, the occasional imposter feeling rears its head. Intensified by Zoom. I tend to over think things, which seems to get me into even more trouble. Yes.
I’ve tried walking, a cure for many these days. I am still working on sitting with the joy of this act. Of shedding the uncertainty that clings to me like a second skin nowadays. I am happy to report that there is progress in this regard.
Things get worrisome, but I maintain a balance of gentleness/care and uncertainty. I spend a lot of time fortifying ties to my intellectual family. Zoom university is a pain, but Zoom get togethers are restorative. Friends and colleagues like @ToPoliticise keep me going.
I’ve been reading for pleasure more, taking time to think through the next steps of my research while making space to reinforce my mind and soul as I make my way through the academe. Thanks to @wzzm10 for the latter of these two current reads.
Of course, I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t working through the struggle between care and uncertainty while staving off my love for napping. I am a serial napper. The academe does this facet of my being a great disservice. Constantly. Unapologetically.
This is life in 2020 part deux (2021 is not real. I will not have any of it). I am here. With you. Pressing on. In spirit mostly. Perhaps in the flesh once more soon enough.
